Wikipedia:Huggle/FeedbackWikipedia talk:Huggle/Feedback – A lot of templates do not work under the Wikipedia namespace, including {{requested move}} and {{Edit template-protected}} (See [1]). Wikipedia talk seems a more appropriate place. 0xDeadbeef 10:10, 16 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

  • Support since all of the talk pages of Huggle warnings redirect here, it's impossible to make an edit request without waiting forever. I made one 10 days ago and it hasn't been addressed. interstatefive  20:49, 16 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Automatically added to list of users – an unapproved automated edit

[edit]

I'm not a fan of the fact that users are automatically added to Wikipedia:Huggle/Users. Apparently, every time you sign in with the tool it will re-add you to the list, even if you've removed yourself. I don't agree with the premise that logging in should cause the tool to automatically make an edit that I did not intend for it to. Please provide opt out functionality or turn this off. Hey man im josh (talk) 12:05, 22 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Hey man im josh: I do not know enough about how this works, but perhaps you could try putting:
userlistsync: false
in to your own Special:MyPage/huggle.yaml.js ? — xaosflux Talk 13:38, 22 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the suggestion @Xaosflux. I may have placed it at the wrong spot in the file for all I know, but I gave it a shot and I was still re-added. Hey man im josh (talk) 13:57, 22 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry, you'll have to wait for one of the developers to comment. You could also try to open a feature request (perhaps allowing override in the user yaml file). — xaosflux Talk 14:25, 22 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I recognize I'm more annoyed than I probably should be, but this has honestly stopped me from using Huggle for AV. I'm just not okay with the program making unapproved edits which I'm not being prompting for in any way. It also serves absolutely no purpose to add people to this list except to possibly promote that a number of people use it?
I'm shocked this has been done automatically for so long. Hey man im josh (talk) 14:23, 25 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Someone brought this up on an unrelated Phabicrator ticket, which Petrb replied to here. @Petrb: I'm not sure if you actually looked at the link that Yoshi shared, but this IS the talk page for Huggle. I see no reason why folks would object to stopping Huggle from making unapproved edits that cannot be stopped or opted out of. Hey man im josh (talk) 19:50, 25 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Following up on this to see if there's any intention to address this... Otherwise I think an explanation that this edit will happen, and perhaps the purpose for it, should be added to Wikipedia:Huggle. I've wanted to use the tool, but I'm fundamentally opposed to the unapproved edits that cannot be stopped. I'm frustrated by the situation, especially considering @Petrb responded on Phab to someone and said to bring this up at the talk page, which I've obviously done. Hey man im josh (talk) 12:56, 9 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Hello, sorry for late answer, I am far less active than I would like to be due to some personal issues. I agree that this feature should probably not be mandatory. The reason why it is, is simply that it always was, even since Huggle 0.x versions from Gurch. There was a mechanism that allowed "banning" selected people from Huggle simply by removing them from that list and preventing them from writing to that page (this feature IMHO no longer works) and this page was also used to simply track a list of active Huggle users (people did wipe it from time to time). But other than that it probably no longer serves any other purpose. My understanding was that there was a consensus that this list should exist and that it should be mandatory for people to put themselves in there in order to use Huggle so that Wikipedia administrators can easily keep a track. But maybe my understanding was wrong. If this feature is not desired, than indeed I think we should either remove it entirely, or at least make it possible to disable it. There are definitely other, more reliable, methods to verify that someone uses Huggle. Petrb (talk) 09:27, 5 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Anyway, I quickly checked the source code and this feature is already optional, but it's defined per project, not per user. You can modify Project:Huggle/Config.yaml and change userlistsync to false and this feature is going to be disabled. I used to be able to modify that config page, but due to my inactivity my elevated permissions on Wikipedia were revoked. You will probably need to ask some Administrator to do that. Petrb (talk) 10:00, 5 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for looking into this @Petrb. I am actually an administrator, but I did not want to overstep. If you're fine with it, I'm happy to modify the setting. Hey man im josh (talk) 10:38, 5 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, I don't really care about this setting, but my understanding was that there was some consensus among the Wikipedia community, or perhaps other administrators, that this was necessary, and I was hoping someone who was around back in 2008, when this feature was implemented, might shed some light on this. Given that nobody here has voiced any sort of disagreement with disabling this feature, I think you can go ahead and just do it. In the worst case, we can always bring it back. Petrb (talk) 08:41, 7 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Done. I'm happy to say that the edit is now not being made to Wikipedia:Huggle/Users. Hey man im josh (talk) 14:08, 7 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Some old Huggle templates nominated for deletion

[edit]

I'm pretty sure that these templates have been unused for a long time. If not, please comment in the TFD and explain how they are used. If they are used, they need to be documented correctly.

Template:Huggle/speedy-club has been nominated for deletion. You are invited to comment on the discussion at the entry on the Templates for discussion page. – Jonesey95 (talk) 19:48, 13 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Huggle for mobile browsers

[edit]

Can I use Huggle with mobile browsers (specifically Google Chrome)? I checked the download page and it doesn't seem to have any version for mobile use. — ‎‎‎hhypeboyh 💬✏️ 08:59, 10 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@HypeBoy: No, Huggle does not run in a browser and there is no mobile app. Because of the way Huggle is coded, I doubt we'll see a mobile version. ~ Matthewrb Let's connect · Here to help 09:03, 10 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I see, that's unfortunate. Thank you for responding, and cheers. — ‎‎‎hhypeboyh 💬✏️ 09:06, 10 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Huggle provider error

[edit]

When I am doing AV work today the queue is not being populated. The queue is empty. The Xmlrcs and the IRC provider are not giving anything, only when I switched to Wiki providers I do get some queue. Any idea why it happened? ✠ SunDawn ✠ (contact) 02:44, 25 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
