9 new accounts were created as a result of the first Glasgow Museums Wiki working group, held on 24 February. 78% of attendees were female. (7 of 9)

16 new accounts were created as a result of the Napier Connect Editathon “Writing Women Back Into History” editathon on 4 March 2015. There were 19 attendees in total, 100% of whom were female.

8 new accounts were created as a result of the Dundee Art and Feminism editathon on 6 March 2015 at the University of Abertay; training was shared by WiR@MGS and WiR@NLS. Approximately 80-90% of participants were women.

Objectives & outcomes

Developing Open Knowledge

Two new Wikimedia Commons categories were created: “Images donated by Glasgow Museums” and “Glasgow Museums GLAMWiki”, as subcategories of Wikimedia and Glasgow Museums. The first will be used in the event of image donation from the Museums’ collections, the second is to be used for images uploaded as a result of the collaboration: from events or individuals. 12 images have been uploaded by a member of the Wiki Working Group.

An editathon has been planned for May to increase quality and volume of content concerning the Showpeople community.

Develop, involve and engage WMUK volunteers

Nine curators were trained to edit Wikipedia as part of the first meeting of the Wiki working group on 24 February. One in particular has shown great interest in editing and I have been supporting her to do so. The next meeting of the group is planned for early April, where I will run catch up training, and we will discuss how the group will move forward.

Reducing barriers to accessing open knowledge

A meeting was held with Glasgow Museums Photo Library & Licensing staff on 25 February, initiating a discussion regarding image donation and licensing. Glasgow Museums’ Publishing, Commissioning and Licensing Manager has escalated the issue.

Planning has begun for an event to introduce the residency to the wider museum sector, through a “Working With Wiki” style event.
