The Nankai 2000 series (南海2000系) is an electric multiple unit (EMU) train type operated by the private railway operator Nankai Electric Railway in Japan since 1990.[2]

Operations

The 2000 series is used mainly on Koya Line services singly or coupled with 2200 series or 2300 series EMUs.[3] All two-car sets along with four four-car sets are allocated to Koya Line services.[4] The remaining six four-car sets are allocated to Nankai Main Line services.[4]

On 25 March 2024, the series made its operational debut on the Tanagawa Line.[5] Operations were also expanded to the Takashinohama Line on 6 April of the same year with plans for expansion onto other branch lines in order to replace the 2200 series sets.[5][6]

Formations

As of 2021, the fleet consists of fourteen two-car sets and nine four-car sets.[4] All the "Mc1" cars are at the Osaka-Namba end.[4] The sets are formed as follows.

Interior

All cars feature longitudinal seating throughout in the first five batches. On the last two batches, all cars feature longitudinal seating except in the car ends where transverse seating bays are used.

History

The trains were introduced in seven batches between 1990 and 1997. They were originally introduced for Koya Line services. Some sets were moved to Nankai Main Line services following the revised timetable implemented in August 2007.[1]

The first four-car sets were delivered with a green stripe instead of the usual Nankai livery. All cars currently feature the standard Nankai livery.
