A tram is a light rail vehicle, often part of a public transport system. Trams are distinguished from other forms of light rail in that they travel along tracks laid down in the centre of city streets. Also known as trolley, streetcar, and probably by other names. Tram systems are common throughout Europe and were common throughout the Western world in the early 20th century. However, all such systems in the United States were removed by the 1950's. Melbourne, Australia is well known for its trams. There is a tram museum in Bendigo, some two hours north of Melbourne, and another in Maryland, USA, near Washington, DC
