  1. A vowel letter traditionally named วิสรรชนีย์ (wí-sǎn-chá-nii) or นมนาง (nom-naang). It can be informally called สระอะ (sà-rà-à).

Usage notes

When it is solely used with a consonant, it produces /aʔ/ without any final consonant. It is also used as vowel component to produce more other sounds as followings:

  • เ◌ะ becomes /eʔ/.
  • แ◌ะ becomes /ɛʔ/.
  • โ◌ะ becomes /oʔ/.
  • เ◌าะ becomes /ɔʔ/.
  • เ◌อะ becomes /ɤʔ/.
  • ◌ัวะ becomes /ua̯ʔ/.
  • เ◌ียะ becomes /ia̯ʔ/.
  • เ◌ือะ becomes /ɯa̯ʔ/.
