From Proto-Albanian *laurā, from Proto-Indo-European *leu, etymologically identical with Lithuanian laure (dirty person).[1]

From Proto-Albanian *laurā, a rebuilt form after the stem in -eh₂, from Proto-Indo-European *leh₁w- (stone). Cognate to Ancient Greek λᾶας (lâas, stone) and Old Irish lie (stone), and perhaps Old Armenian լեառն (leaṙn).[2]
