[edit]From Old Irish laigid, from Proto-Celtic *lego-, from Proto-Indo-European *legʰ-. Cognate with English lay, Gothic 𐌻𐌹𐌲𐌰𐌽 (ligan) and Old Church Slavonic лещи (lešti).[1]
