[edit]Inherited from Ottoman Turkish بالعكس (bilʿaks, bilʿakis, “on the contrary”),[1][2] from Arabic بِالْعَكْس (bi-l-ʕaks), from بِـ (bi-) + اَلْ (al-) + عَكْس (ʕaks),[3] equivalent to bil- + akis (“reflection”).
