Etymology

[edit]

Inherited from Vulgar Latin *haemorrheuma, from Ancient Greek αἱμο- (haimo-, blood) + ῥεῦμα (rheûma, stream, flow), from ῥέω (rhéō, to flow). The first syllable was formed by analogy with other Spanish words borrowed from Arabic with the article اَل (al-, the).[1] Cognate with Galician almorrá, partly with Portuguese almorroida and almorreima, and possibly with Catalan morena.
