  • (Gelderland) Attested as S. Andries in 1629. Derived from the name of a Spanish fort, which was in turn apparently named after Andrew of Austria (1558-1600), the then governor-general of the Southern Netherlands.
  • (Zeeland) Attested as St. Andries in 1664. Derived from the name of Saint Andrew the Apostle. Named after a former Spanish fortress.
