Special Issues

ACM TECS invites proposals for special issues within the scope of the journal. A special issue provides a well-defined venue for publication of state-of-the-art research papers that relate to a common theme, and it serves as a catalyst for an emerging research trend by providing a highly-visible forum for the topic, and it encourages dissemination of high-quality work with a focused review process and publication schedule.

Special issues should aim to attract at least around 20 submissions.

A special issue proposal should be submitted using the following template. It should contain the following items of information:

  • Title of the proposal
  • An extended abstract detailing the focus of the special issue, its relevance to the TECS community, and the importance and timeliness of the topic.
  • Following the extended abstract, a list of topics of interest for the special issue.
  • A list of potential contributors and their respective affiliations.
  • Biographies of the guest editors.
  • Tentative timeline from call for papers to final acceptance.

Guidelines for the guest editor team:

  • The recommended number of guest editors is a maximum of four.
  • The team should have diversity in expertise, geography, and gender. In particular, it is recommended that one of the guest editors should be from industry with relevant experience.
  • The majority of the guest editor team should consist of established researchers.
  • Paper submission guidelines follow ACM TECS submission guidelines https://dl.acm.org/journal/tecs/author-guidelines

The submitted special issue proposal will be evaluated by the TECS special issue editors, the TECS editor-in-chief, and the editorial board. When revisions are required, the special issue editors will work with the proposers, and the TECS editor staff to refine the special issue’s call for paper.

Please submit a special issue proposal by emailing both Andreas Gerstlauer and Hiren Patel TECS special issue editors.
