μITRON for Small-Scale Embedded Systems

Abstract

The \muITRON is a standard real-time kernel specification for use in small-scale embedded control systems. This specification has been implemented for a large number of microcontroller units (MCUs), and has been utilized in numerous applications. In this article, the design principles of the \muITRON specification and the current state of its implementations and applications are described. The overview of the \muITRON bus, a low-cost real-time LAN standard for connecting small-scale embedded systems, is also introduced.
