A Simulation Study of Non-Cooperative Pricing Strategies for Circuit-Switched Optical Networks

Published: 11 October 2002 Publication History

Abstract

We consider a noncooperative community of users thatshare a number of circuit-switched optical channels. Afterspecifying an example user utility function that corre-spondsto inelastic bandwidth requirements, we study numericallythe existence and nature of Nash equilibriumpoint(s) reached by the users, for a fixed charge per circuitper unit time imposed by the network for each successfullytransmitted packet. Our numerical simulations include severalcases of user demand and utility, both symmetric andasymmetric. Finally, we describe how the network couldmodify its chosen price to steer the users to desired aggregatethroughput levels.
