An Empirical Study on the Design Effort of Web Applications

Published: 12 December 2002 Publication History

Abstract

We study the effort needed for designing Web applicationsfrom an empirical point of view. The design phasetakes an important part of the overall effort needed to developa Web applicatiqn, since the use of tools can help automatethe implementation phase. We carried out an empiricalstudy with the students of an advanced university classthat used W2000 as a Web application design technique. Our .first goal was to compare the relative importance ofeach design activity. Second, we tried to assess the accuracyof a priori design effort predictions and the influenceof some factors on the effort neededfor each design activity.Third, we also studied the quality of the designs obtained.
