Published: 22 September 2009 Publication History

Abstract

The Future Factory Initiative is a joint effort between SAP Research and industrial and academic partner organizations to foster research and development for the manufacturing industry. One of the main efforts is the Future Factory Lab. Based on a scenario for high-variant, discrete manufacturing, the Future Factory applies evolving technologies and the state of the art in automation, hardware-ERP integration, RFID, and user interfaces. This paper outlines notable features of the Future Factory Initiative and the Future Factory Lab.
