Abstract

This paper will discuss the implications, uses, and internal architecture of APL.68000's Auxiliary Processor 1, a special auxiliary processor which allows users to create their own local auxiliary processors.

As microcomputers become more and more sophisticated, it is increasingly important that APL systems on micros can interface to the “outside world” in as general and as simple a manner as possible. There are three key things that the APL user on a micro needs to interface with:

1) Peripherals

2) Operating System Routines

3) Non-APL Sub-routines (Assembler, Fortran, etc.)
