The changing face of instructional computing

Published: 10 November 1982 Publication History

Abstract

The precipitous drop in the cost of CPU cycles, coupled with increased public awareness of computers due to the proliferation of microcomputers, is changing the common perception of what a computer “should” be used for. As this change takes place, it is important for computer center planners to realize that they will be called upon to deliver services outside of the traditional computer role, and to deliver them to an ever larger number of users. This paper is an attempt to address the problem of how to adjust to this growing, changing demand for computing within the academic community.
