REACH Projector: A Remote Collaboration Projector-Camera System with an Effective Visual Echo Cancellation Algorithm

Published: 13 November 2024 Publication History

Abstract

Remote learning poses many challenges for educators and students, particularly with hands-on activities typical of the STEM curriculum. Our group presents REACH (Remote Embodiment for Augmented Collaborative Help), a projector-camera system that shares remote gestures and workspaces and enables real-time interactions for end users. REACH is built using simple laser-cut structures and open-source hardware, making it accessible for deployment in K-12 environments. To address the common issue of visual echoing in projector-camera systems, we propose an effective algorithm that uses color space conversion and extraction in the CIELAB color space.
