Analysis of Doppler Shifts in Aeronautical Channels using the LEO Satellite

Published: 01 February 2021 Publication History

Abstract

Since the LEO (Low Earth Orbit) satellite communication can provide a real-time command and control of aircraft, we investigate its channel model for aeronautical applications. In this paper, based on the established two-path aeronautical channel model, we introduce the Euler angle to evaluate aircraft's maneuverability, and analyze its impacts on Doppler shifts. Under different aircraft speeds and elevation angles from the aircraft to satellite, we simulate Doppler shifts affected by aircraft's maneuverability. In the Euler angle of aircraft, numerical results show that the pitch angle has greater influences on Doppler shifts than the yaw angle, whereas the yaw angle mainly affects Doppler shifts at low elevation angles.
