The application of WeChat official accounts for provincial archives in China

Abstract

WeChat Official Account is one of the most popular government social media in China. This study explores the application of WeChat Official Accounts for provincial archives in China, focusing on two major functions of the Official Account: custom menu and broadcast function. Statistical analyze menu items of 20 provincial archive WeChat Official Accounts and use WCI to evaluate broadcast messages. The result shows that the current menu design of each Official Account is different, and the resource type of broadcast messages are more attractive for users. Discussion offers a framework to improve the menu design and advocates the promotion of archive compilation, in order to provide high quality services and broadcast messages for users.
