Utilization of Facebook in University Student's Career Education Based on a Job Hunting Process under the Japanese Employment Practice

Published: 15 August 2016 Publication History

Abstract

In Japan, the feature of the employment of labor is characteristic, which derives from unique custom and practice of the employment of Japanese companies. As a result, the vocational education has not been done at the university for a long time. In recent years, however, the necessity of the vocational education at the university is pointed out. But this vocational education in Japan is a little different from that in other countries. It is called "the carrier education". Many students are trained in this "the carrier education" for their job-hunting process, and they obtain technical skills and knowledges to pass a company entrance examination or oral interview at the universities in these days. Contrary to this, intrinsically meaningful vocational/carrier education is that students acquire the abilities which correspond to industrial requirement autonomously. At Hokkai-Gakuen University Faculty of Business Administration, the purpose of the vocational/carrier education program is to foster independence in students rather than to acquire skill in job-hunting process. We think the autonomy of every student is very important to carrier-formation after graduating from the university. And in a process to improve independence of their will, we have found that utilization of Facebook is very useful and effective.
