Multi-source data management on internet of city tunnels

Published: 13 August 2011 Publication History

Abstract

To relieve the heavy municipal traffic, city tunnels become popular in most cities of China. They can be connected together to support the whole intelligent transportation system. One of the most important problems is how to effectively manage the monitoring data from various sources when monitoring the connected city tunnels. In this paper, we propose a XML based data management strategy which classifies the monitoring data into two categories, i. e., environment data and controllable equipment data. We use different ways to obtain them and store them in two separate XML files. Environment data is periodically got from sensors located in the city tunnels; the changes of the status of controllable equipment trigger off the data distribution. Therefore, the proposed strategy is more efficient than that of using a single XML for all the monitoring data. We successfully applied the strategy to the monitoring system of Internet of Wuhan city tunnels, and the performance of its data management has been improved a lot.
