A digital ecosystem to support children with cerebral palsy

Abstract

This paper proposes the development of a digital ecosystem to connect parents and health workers in supporting children with cerebral palsy (CP). CP is a permanent motor disorder affecting a child's ability to control and coordinate different parts of their body. The disability can range from minimal to profound. One of the treatment goals for children with CP is to have regular home-based physical-therapy program to prevent weakening and deterioration of muscle. Minimizing disability and maximizing quality of life are the goal to help children with CP to grow into adolescence with as much independence and motor functionality. An unexpected advantage from this project is the transfer and sharing of knowledge, which externalizes tacit knowledge of experienced pediatric physiotherapist in a visual digital form of video clips.
