Abstract

A survey was carried out in order to draw on experience in the UK of the use of software tools to develop medical and health service applications. The main objective was to identify the capabilities and characteristics that might be required in software tools created specifically for this area of applications. The work gives some indications of such requirements, but was constrained by the discovery that so far there has been only limited use of the general-purpose software development tools currently available.
