A formal framework of multi-agent systems with requirement/service cooperative style

Abstract

Adopting three kinds of speech acts: request, promise, and inform, this paper analyses the interaction among aents in a kind of multi-agent systems with requirements/services cooperation style (MASr-s). The paper gives the objective model the theoretic satisfaction conditions of three kinds of speech acts in MASr-s. The formal definition of MASr-s has been presented. To evaluate concrete implementation architecture and mechanism of the variant MASr-s, including client/server computing architecture and mechanism, a spectrum of MASr-s has been proposed, which capturesdirect request/passive service mechanism,direct request/active service mechanism,indirect request/active service mechanism, and peerto-peer request/service mechanism. The spectrum shows a thread to improve traditional client/server computing.

WANG Huaimin was born in 1962. He received his M.S degree in computer science and Ph.D. degree in computer software and theory from National University of Defense Technology in 1988 and 1992, respectively. Since 1992, he has been working in Computer Department, National University of Defense Technology, where he is now a Professor. In 1998 he became a member of the Expert Committee of National 863 Programme, on intelligent computer. Since 1990, he has been in charge of or taken part in more than 10 research subjects, such as the National 863 Hi-Tech Programme, National Defense Research, the National Natural Science Foundation and National Defense Research Foundation, etc., and has acquired outstanding achievements on istributed computing environment and distributed AI. Up to now he has published more than 50 papers in the areas of distributed computing, distributed AI, agent-oriented and distributed object computing, methodology of software development.

WU Quanyuan, Professor, was born in 1942. Professor Wu has been engaged in the teaching and research work of computer for a long time. From the early 70’s to 1983, he successively participated in the designing and building of several high-performance computer systems. From 1984, his research has focused on artificial intelligence and intelligent computing. He has obtained over 10 national first-class or second-class awards for progresses in science & technology and first-class (once) & second-class (twice) awards for national prize of teaching. He also teaches courses in expert system and system modeling for graduated students. Professor Wu has published 2 books and over 80 papers, trained about 80 Ph.D. students and M.S. students. His main interests are distributed computing, expert system and intelligent software.
