Treating measurement uncertainty in complete conformity control system

Abstract

The effective management and control of technological processes as a source of competitive advantage is of vital importance for many organizations. In process control system, SPC is a widely used optimization philosophy, which uses a collection of (statistical) tools for data and process analysis, making inferences about process behavior and decision-making. Concerning decision-making, however, the traditional SPC methods do not take the measurement uncertainty into account even if it is known. We developed a method, which takes the measurement uncertainty, the costs coming up in connection with the production process and the revenues from their sold into account. Simulations show that taking measurement uncertainty into account as a priori information is suitable because Type II decision error can be decreased considerably and profit can be increased significantly, which are key factors in process control and in enhancing competitiveness.
