Abstract
Gone are the days when Solid-State Drives were just fast drop-in replacements for hard disk drives. What ushered us out of that era was, arguably, the NVMe standard. With NVMe, applications can use much faster storage interfaces and a more diverse ecosystem of modern I/O frameworks to deploy them. Moreover, under NVMe, the market saw the introduction of a broader variety of SSDs that covered a much greater space of storage behaviors.
