Abstract

Cultural and creative products play an essential role in fostering the prosperity and sustainable development of local economies. Today, the cultural sector presents itself as an elective field of application for the development of investments in new technologies such as blockchain. This paper introduces Quantum Temple, which received the 2023 United Nations World Tourism Organization’s “Awake Tourism Challenge” award for local community engagement. Quantum Temple tokenizes tangible and intangible cultural heritage on the blockchain, ensuring their immutability, decentralized ownership, and capitalization for cultural prosperity and inclusive development. The paper discusses the role of blockchain in cultural heritage preservation and valorization, introduces Quantum Temple, and presents its curatorial standards, information architecture, and smart contract development. The paper also showcases the Paths to Alangö NFT collection as a case study to demonstrate Quantum Temple's capabilities and potential.
