Abstract
As one of the most frequently used wearable devices, the demand for True Wireless Stereo (TWS) earphones is quite substantial. Fit performance is a major factor that influences customer satisfaction, which contributes greatly to the success of wearable products. Ergonomics is a crucial approach to design well-fitting products. Nevertheless, there’s no existing tools or platforms aiding TWS earphone design from a perspective of ergonomics. In this paper, an interactive and web-based application was developed. It integrates up-to-date Chinese 3D ear anthropometric database and an online deviation analysis algorithm to (1) provide ear anthropometric information as design reference, and (2) evaluate the fit between TWS earphones and human ear. A user-centered contextual inquiry was performed to identify user requirements. As a result, an initial prototype was accordingly created, including the interface and interactive design. The interactive and user-centered online application can efficiently facilitate the ergonomic design of TWS earphones in both design and evaluation phase, and thus help improve the customer satisfaction.
