Abstract

Recent breakthroughs in CAE technology have lead to a high degree of parallel scaling of CAE simulations in a distributed shared- memory environment. A variety of research and commerical CAE software demonstrate scalable levels that are linear beyond 256 processors on the ccNUMA system architecture developed by SGI. Parallel algorithms typical of contemporary CAE software offer efficient strategies that overcome bottlenecks for moderate levels of parallelism. However, to achieve efficient parallelism on 100’s of processors, additional consideration must be given to topics such as performance of system software and awareness of communication architectures. This paper examines the requirements for highly-scalable CAE simulations on an assortment of industrial application examples.
