Please provide more information on images like these. What is the source of the image? Who drew it, where was it published? When was it published? This is all important information, not just the license. Thanks, pfctdayelise (translate?) 04:52, 20 February 2006 (UTC)
This image needs some more source information. Where was it published? Who drew it? How do you know it was first published prior to 1923? We need all this information on ALL images. pfctdayelise (translate?) 12:48, 22 February 2006 (UTC)
Re: Category
[edit]Done. BTW, if you want to request deletion in the future, you can tag it for speedy deletion by putting {{speedydelete}} Made by mistake/duplicate category/(other reason) ~~~~ But I don't mind if you ask me directly either. Cheers, pfctdayelise (translate?) 15:11, 28 April 2006 (UTC)
Possible copyright violations
[edit]Hi Dudo, you've uploaded a few images where the source clearly says "The images may be used for the personal education of website visitors.". A few of them are Image:Herrerasaurusskull.jpg, Image:Byronosaurusskull.jpg, Image:Eoraptorskull.jpg and Image:Pachyrhinosaurus skull.jpg. Are you really sure that you are allowed to publish them under the GFDL here? If that is the case, please update the image description pages telling this there. If that is not the case, we must delete the images. -- aka 18:35, 1 May 2006 (UTC)
- Well, two of these images were previously uploaded to the english wikipedia - the image of the skull of Pachyrhinosaurus [1] and Byronosaurus [2] under the licence "copyrighted...any use for any purpouse" with the same description as I gave. I uploaded them here, but gave another license that I thought would better fit the decription. The images of Eoraptor and Herrerasaurus are from the same source as the image of Byronosaurus, thus I gave the same license. If you feel that another license fits the decscription better, you are free to change it. I uploaded them in a hurry so I didnt spend the whole day considering which license fits the best. :) --Dudo 21:17, 2 May 2006 (UTC)
- Hallo Dudo. The images may be used for the personal education of website visitors.". Gibt es eine Erlaubnis für die Verwendung dieser Bilder? Grüße --TomCatX 22:41, 7 May 2006 (UTC)
- Ich habe das Erlaubnis nicht, aber ich hab grade den user en:use:Devotchka gefragt. Er/sie gab diesen Bildern ursprunglich eine "free to use for any purpouse" Lizenz. Ich dachte er hat das Erlaubnis. Hoffentlich mussen wir die bildern nicht loschen. Grusse von --Dudo 08:33, 8 May 2006 (UTC)
Image Tagging Image:Anapsid.png
[edit]
Thanks for uploading Image:Anapsid.png. I notice the image page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you have not created this media yourself then you need to argue that we have the right to use the media on Wikimedia Commons (see copyright tagging below). If you have not created the media yourself then you should also specify where you found it, i.e., in most cases link to the website where you got it, and the terms of use for content from that page.
If the media also doesn't have a copyright tag, then you must also add one. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then you can use {{GFDL-self}} to release it under the GFDL or {{PD-self}} to release it into the public domain. See Commons:Copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.
Note that any unsourced and untagged images will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have uploaded other media, please check that you have specified their source and copyright tagged them, too. You can find all your uploads using the Gallery tool. Thank you. iGEL (talk) 10:42, 4 June 2006 (UTC)

Hello, and thank your for sharing your files with Commons. There seems to be a problem regarding the description and or licensing of this particular file. Could you please resolve these problems, which are described on the page linked in above? Thank you.--- Sorry, I forgot to give the picture a license, but now Its fixed.
Hello. You tagged this image for speedy deletion, but you gave no reason. In edit summary you wrote the image was re-uploaded under new name. But you haven't told the correct name. Since the image is still I can't replace it with new one. Please use {{Badname}} for marking it. --Zirland 08:10, 20 July 2006 (UTC)
- Done. --Dudo 09:11, 20 July 2006 (UTC)
Images from morguefile are not considered as released under a free license, see [3]. --Matt314 15:59, 29 July 2006 (UTC)
- Well, and what is the then correct license for their use on wikipedia? Fair use? I assume its ok to upload them from commons to wiki. --Dudo 08:55, 30 July 2006 (UTC)
Would you help me to remove this picture? This picture shows nothig (or everything) and I don't know how to do it. Koobak 18:15, 12 August 2006 (UTC)
- Well, Im not admin on commons, thus I cant remove this picture. But why would you like to delete it? I know it is not very good for detailed anatomy description, on the other hand it offers a rare sight to the animal's enviroment and it does show the major characteristics of Stygimoloch - the dome-shaped skull with the extreme cranial ornamentation. We're far from being rich on images to afford deletion of such a good image. Best wishes --Dudo 20:48, 12 August 2006 (UTC)
- I can't see any details on this picture. Koobak 19:38, 15 August 2006 (UTC)
- Thats right, but the main characters of Stygimoloch are schown. Besides, I dont see any reason to delete any high-quality picture of this kind. --Dudo 21:30, 15 August 2006 (UTC)

Dimetrodon2 is an Edaphosaur
[edit]From Image talk:Dimetrodon2.jpg:
- This "Dimetrodon" seems to be an Edaphosaur. As much as I remember Dimetrodons didn't have hooks on it's spines, while the Edaphosaurs had. Also: the head is too short to be a Dimetrodon, but fits well with the Edaphosaur face.
Comments? Or I'll rename it. Rursus 14:17, 1 June 2007 (UTC)

File:Scelidosaurus.jpg has been marked as a possible copyright violation. Wikimedia Commons only accepts free content—that is, images and other media files that can be used by anyone, for any purpose. Traditional copyright law does not grant these freedoms, and unless noted otherwise, everything you find on the web is copyrighted and not permitted here. For details on what is acceptable, please read Commons:Licensing. You may also find Commons:Copyright rules useful, or you can ask questions about Commons policies at the Commons:Help desk. If you are the copyright holder and the creator of the file, please read Commons:But it's my own work! for tips on how to provide evidence of that.
The file you added may soon be deleted. If you have written permission from the copyright holder, please replace the copyvio tag with {{subst:OP}} and have them send us a free license release via COM:VRT. If you disagree that the file is a copyright violation for any other reason, please replace the copyvio tag with a regular deletion request. Warning: Wikimedia Commons takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

File source is not properly indicated: File:Coelophysis.jpg
[edit]This media may be deleted. |
A file that you have uploaded to Wikimedia Commons, File:Coelophysis.jpg, is missing information about where it comes from or who created it, which is needed to verify its copyright status. Please edit the file description and add the missing information, or the file may be deleted.
If you created the content yourself, enter If someone else created the content, or if it is based on someone else's work, the source should be the address to the web page where you found it, the name and ISBN of the book you scanned it from, or similar. You should also name the author, provide verifiable information to show that the content is in the public domain or has been published under a free license by its author, and add an appropriate template identifying the public domain or licensing status, if you have not already done so. Warning: Wikimedia Commons takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing. Please add the required information for this and other files you have uploaded before adding more files. If you need assistance, please ask at the help desk. Thank you! |

File:Triapsid.png has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.
If you created this file, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues. |

Your account will be renamed
[edit]Hello,
The developer team at Wikimedia is making some changes to how accounts work, as part of our on-going efforts to provide new and better tools for our users like cross-wiki notifications. These changes will mean you have the same account name everywhere. This will let us give you new features that will help you edit and discuss better, and allow more flexible user permissions for tools. One of the side-effects of this is that user accounts will now have to be unique across all 900 Wikimedia wikis. See the announcement for more information.
Unfortunately, your account clashes with another account also called Dudo. To make sure that both of you can use all Wikimedia projects in future, we have reserved the name Dudo~commonswiki that only you will have. If you like it, you don't have to do anything. If you do not like it, you can pick out a different name.
Your account will still work as before, and you will be credited for all your edits made so far, but you will have to use the new account name when you log in.
Sorry for the inconvenience.
Yours,
Keegan Peterzell
