Please do not remove categories from files
[edit]they are never "superseeded". Removing categories is a vandalism. --Sailko (talk) 21:15, 21 January 2020 (UTC)
- Can you elaborate on what you mean by "vandalism"? A specific example would help. 170.146.220.71 02:19, 22 January 2020 (UTC)
File copyright status
[edit]Welcome to Wikimedia Commons. While everyone is welcome to contribute constructively to the project, one or more of your file uploads had missing or false information regarding its source and copyright status. Please note that Wikimedia Commons takes copyright rules and infringement very seriously. Files may only be uploaded and included if their copyright status meets the conditions stated in our licensing policy, and if their provenance is clearly documented. Files that fail to meet those conditions may be deleted, and users who fail to meet them may be blocked. Please follow our first steps, if you haven't already. If you have questions, feel free to ask at the Village Pump copyright question page or on my talk page. Thank you. — Racconish 💬 18:52, 3 August 2020 (UTC)
Good job uploading higher resolution images
[edit]Just to tell you that you are doing a great job by doing so! Veverve (talk) 21:52, 19 August 2020 (UTC)
- Thanks for your kind words. It's nice to see public appreciation for for my work, and it makes a stark contrast with bureaucrats enforcing vague policies that aren't well understood. Aavindraa (talk) 20:16, 6 December 2020 (UTC)

You have been blocked for a duration of one month
[edit]You have been blocked from editing Commons for a duration of one month for the following reason: Overwriting artworks after warnings.
If you wish to make useful contributions, you may do so after the block expires. If you believe this block is unjustified, you may add {{unblock|(enter your reason here) ~~~~}} below this message explaining clearly why you should be unblocked. See also the block log. For more information, see Appealing a block.

Hi Aavindraa, I warned you several times in the past and you already got a block 10 years ago for overwriting files. I just noticed you overwrote File:Albrecht Dürer 087.jpg and a whole lot of other files. You don't seem to be getting it so I blocked you for a month. You can be unblocked now, you just have to agree to one condition: You won't overwrite any files except files where you are the only uploader. Multichill (talk) 15:47, 5 December 2020 (UTC)
- I have struggled to interpret what com:OVERWRITE really means, so you are right, I don't really get it. If I had more time to spend on Wikipedia, one of my first changes would be:
- making com:OVERWRITE clearer; it is vague enough for "wrong" interpretation as evidenced by my lack of understanding it for 10 years now.
- make it easier to manage files across multiple wiki
- obsoleting /changing some of the policies in com:OVERWRITE
.
- @Taivo I know reading carefully on a Sunday can be challenging. Maybe you missed this part: going forward I have no interest in replacing files. If this is the new status quo on Wikimedia then please go ahead and ban me permantnly. Aavindraa (talk) 20:04, 6 December 2020 (UTC)
- Your response is unclear and ambiguous. Do you agree with the unblock condition? Please answer with either yes or no so it's clear for everyone. Multichill (talk) 11:22, 7 December 2020 (UTC)
