Description
Español: El Salto Ángel

Es una Catarata del sureste de Venezuela, situada en el río Churún, afluente del Carrao. Es la catarata interrumpida más alta del mundo, quince veces mayor que las cataratas del Niágara; su caída es de 979 m desde la mesa del Auyan Tepuy, en las selvas del macizo de las Guayanas. Es un portento natural único e impresionante para quienes tienen el honor de verlo en persona.

Se encuentra dentro del Parque nacional Canaima. Sin embargo geográficamente El Salto Ángel no pertenece a la zona denominada La Gran Sabana, aún así, en prácticamente toda obra sobre esta región se incluye, dado que pertenece a la misma formación y sus características son del mismo orden.Fue descubierto ( mostrada al mundo ) en 1937 por el aviador y aventurero estadounidense James C. Ángel, de quien recibe el nombre. y cuyas cenizas se depositaron sobre el salto a petición del propio Jimmy.

El salto Ángel es llamado por los indígenas Kerekupai-merú, que en la lengua Pemón quiere decir "salto del lugar más profundo" aunque también es conocido como Churún-merú, es un error puesto que ese nombre corresponde a otro salto ubicado al final del cañón del diablo de unos 400 metros de altura.
