The Chinese coastal defence ship Pingyuan was the first armoured ship built in China. She was launched in 1888 as the Lung Wei (also spelled Longwei). Her later name is also referred to as PingYuan or Ping Yuan. Entered service in 1890. It was taken over by Japan in 1895, following their victory at Weihaiwei. In Japan, it was renamed as coastal defence ship Heien and served until it was damaged beyond repair after hitting a mine in 1904, during the war against Russia.
