Comments are displayed in the context of an original post, and may be a mix of syndicated reply posts from other sites received via Webmention, as well as locally created comments https://indieweb.org/comments
#

is there a reason why "comment" isn't /comments? that's done for salmention et al

didn't find anything in the discussion tab

Good morning zegnat. Recovered from your ordeal in the shop window?

Not much to recover from :) Working on better displaying the results today so it might go up on my site soon
#
jeremycherfas
Sounds good.
#
Zegnat
Struggling with some translations though, and with the word cloud (I honestly assumed there would be solid word cloud code out there to use)
#
jeremycherfas
Is the word cloud code not solid? I've only ever used web versions, which delivered an image, and they seemed OK to me. But that was a while ago, so don't ask for a recommendation. :)
#
Zegnat
It is not. It will randomly drop words if it couldn’t fit them in, so you need to refresh until all words got fitted.
#
Zegnat
And when I refresh the code, it seems like it doesn’t reset correctly and words start overlapping, so I need the entire page to refresh
#
Zegnat
Oddly enough whenever I look for JS word clouds people keep linking to this library, even though both issues I experiences have been documented as issues with that library :(
#
jeremycherfas
Is there a cut-off frequency, such that you could have a list of "These words were used fewer than X times"? Might make it more manageable.
#
jeremycherfas
I think this is the version I used http://www.wordle.net/create
#
Zegnat
I would like to use something that I can run locally. But yeah, maybe I need to drop words that were only used once.
#
Zegnat
Depending on the set, that may drop a lot of things :)

I just wanted to send a quick "Hello" and a heartfelt "Thank you!" I have my own domain (Woo!), and a Wordpress site, hosted on Reclaim Hosting, with lot of IndieWeb plugins and the Sempress theme. Thank you so much for all the work you've done to make things easier for a Neo like me. Have logged in to the wiki and set up a User Page. I hope it's not too silly. I was excited. :)

Not doing HWC New Haven during summer. Mayve we can do one in Providence. Are you close?

Well congrats on launching the site. Stop by WordPress if you have questions

Thanks much! Sorry not to respond sooner (confess I was trying to embed a Wallace and Gromit clip onto the new website). I was wondering how HWC New Haven was going. I'm about 33 miles from Providence. I live in a little town called Woodstock. And, yes, I need to stop over by the WordPress chat room. My mum went out to weed the poison ivy and hasn't been heard from since so I had better get off the

Woodstock about 60 miles from East Haddam so PVD will be good place for meet up. Look for details in #meta

Hi all, is there a page I can point to that represents a reference of all IndieWeb markup?
#
rubenverborgh
Currently looking at https://indieweb.org/comments, for instance, but that's only for comments.
#
rubenverborgh
Any good overview page?
#
rubenverborgh
(would it be https://indieweb.org/microformats ?)
#
doubleloop
However I'm not an expert, so others might be able to point out a better resource :)
#
Zegnat
I do not think anything represents all IndieWeb markup. It is very much broken up based on usecase. But I am a little sleepy so I may just not be remembering a page
#
rubenverborgh
Thanks!
#
rubenverborgh
How would you clarify the relationship between IndieWeb and microformats, is IndieWeb simply a community of people using microformats?
#
Zegnat
I know a bit back people where updating post pages with example how-to-publish snippets of HTML. So the effort has always been about giving people a clear example on a per-post-type basis. Rather than having a knowledgebase page with everything in one place.
#
rubenverborgh
(Context: I'm writing a blog post on data shapes, and would want to point to the way it is done within the IndieWeb community.)
#
rubenverborgh
But there is a notion of "all IndieWeb microformats", right? I mean: the list of things you can comply to is exhaustive?
#
aaronpk
this is probably a good place to start: https://indieweb.org/post-type-discovery
#
doubleloop
infominer[m]: I would say it depends what you want from your instance - they are quite often 'topic-based'
#
aaronpk
an "exhaustive" list is certainly a nice idea isn't it :)
#
aaronpk
but that's not how the real world works
#
rubenverborgh
Ah thx, the type discovery indeed has a lot of them.
#
rubenverborgh
No it's definitely not how the real world works, but that's kind of what I am wondering about: is IndieWeb a finite set, or not?
#
rubenverborgh
i.e., can anyone just propose something, and will it work?
#
aaronpk
depends on what you mean by "work"
#
rubenverborgh
Or when is a (micro-)format part of IndieWeb, what is the threshold or process?
#
aaronpk
the post type discovery spec talks about some of that process
#
rubenverborgh
https://indieweb.org/post-type-discovery is very interesting, because it seems to assume a finite set
#
rubenverborgh
(unless "note" can have subclasses or something)
#
Zegnat
Looking at https://indieweb.org/Category:PostType though, IndieWeb also features post types that are so niche they are still very far from being specc’ed microformats. (Which is fine, because mf2 parsers are vocabulary agnostic, so you can actually experiment and try new types whenever.)
#
Zegnat
I do not think we do a lot of gate keeping? If someone wants to publish something, and someone else wants to consume it, they can go at it. If that turns into an uptick it’ll trickle down into the different specs.
#
aaronpk
post type discovery is the set of vocabularies that are established enough to be considered "stable"
#
rubenverborgh
And how would you characterize the decision process of whether something trickles down to the specs / become "stable"? Is that centralized agreement? Voting?
#
aaronpk
that's described in the spec
#
rubenverborgh
So the Editor?
#
aaronpk
hm now I can't find the section I was thinking of
#
Zegnat
I would say centralised agreement, or rather, I usually put it as community consensus. Stuff usually ends up in specs when there are a certain number of publishers and consumers (e.g. proven use). Until then, it is just people documenting their use, which leads to said community consensus.
#
jacky
infominer[m]: I would point you to #mastodon but since you are tech-adjacent; https://mastodon.technology or https://mastodon.xyz might be best!
#
Zegnat
aaronpk, I don’t think tantek specified a progress for PTD? Also just talks about community convergence: http://ptd.spec.indieweb.org/#othertypes
#
rubenverborgh
Thanks all, this is useful input.
#
aaronpk
so I thought it was that there had to be at least 3 publishing and consuming implementations
#
aaronpk
and that does seem to be reflected in the discussions, e.g. https://github.com/tantek/post-type-discovery/issues/26
#
Loqi
[tantek] #26 add "event" to Post Type Algorithm per publishing evidence
#
aaronpk
"This is well beyond the methodology threshold of three independent verified publishing implementations..."
#
rubenverborgh
Will ping back with the blog post text when published to check if I characterize IndieWeb correctly.
