Battle Studies Maschiff

So, I did some looking around about Arven in the battles studies class, and there are some playthroughs that show him a Maschiff, and others with a Mabosstiff (such as this one). We just have to figure out at what point in the story does it turn into Mabosstiff when you take the class. I am assuming it is after the second titan, but I am not sure. --FrostyZippy (talk) 22:13, 4 December 2022 (UTC)

I got Maschiff on the last Battle Studies class after already defeating all five titans (Haven't met Arven at the lab yet). So that's a no. Looking at the video, I notice Nemona also has a Pawmot, and the player has completed all three storylines. So I'm guessing once you complete them they evolve? Which begs the question if it's each one separately after completing their respective storyline, or both together after you finish all 3 (plus presumably The Way Home). --Necrozman (talk) 14:23, 5 December 2022 (UTC)
Hmmm...maybe it's random? Maybe it's after the Arven battle at the lab? This is interesting --FrostyZippy (talk) 00:40, 6 December 2022 (UTC)
I just did a test since I was up to the lab battle in my Scarlet play through. Before the battle, whilst Arven is at the lighthouse waiting to battle, he has a Mastiff in Battle Studies (6). After the battle and the Path of Legends end title card, he has a Mabosstiff in Battle Studies (6). Netshroud (talk) 10:49, 2 January 2023 (UTC)

Arven Mabosstiff Gender

I feel like it's safe to say that the Mabosstiff is a male, right? For one, it's male in battle. And for two, Arven repeatedly uses "He" and "Him" to refer to the Mabosstiff. One example is in the first cutscene where Mabosstiff appears: Arven says "He never really recovered." and "So I promised that I'd make him better—whatever it takes." (timestamped) https://youtu.be/nbo3TvBjDCE?t=1205. Also, in the dialogue before the final fight against Arven, the dialogue says "Yep, Mabostiff says he's ready!" (also timestamped) https://youtu.be/nbo3TvBjDCE?t=3049. The games may not typically use gendered pronouns to refer to most Pokémon, but in this case male pronouns are used to refer to this specific Mabosstiff, and they're used multiple times. I'm curious if gendered pronouns are used in the original Japanese. Landfish7 06:19, 28 January 2023 (UTC)
