Overthrowing a Tyrunt (Japanese: チゴラス、砕く Chigoras, Break) is the 566th chapter of the Pokémon Adventures manga, and the 18th chapter of the X & Y arc.

Plot

With Clemont using his Aipom Arm to search for the Mega Stone in a tree, the Team Flare Grunt already hiding inside tries his best to avoid Clemont's camera, only to be caught while he muses about his journey to join Team Flare. Shauna yells that the grunt is a villain, prompting Clemont to use his Aipom Arm to attack the grunt, sending him and his Tyrunt to fall out. No longer needing to hide, the grunt has his Tyrunt tear up the tree with its powerful jaw, sending it crashing down on the group of friends before Clemont can grab the Mega Stone. Despite Clemont managing to retrieve the Stone, the grunt pins him under the trunk and steals it from him anyway. The grunt sends out a group of four Espurr to attack the group, keeping X and Y at bay with their Psychic powers. Y tells X to give chase to the grunt, so X asks Manectric and Trevor to follow him while the others keep the Espurr occupied. As she uses her Rhyhorn to rescue Clemont, Clemont reveals that he saw Grace the previous day, much to Y's surprise.

X, Trevor and Manectric chase the fleeing Tyrunt to Parfum Palace, losing it in the hedge maze. Before X and Trevor can deliberate whether they should risk entering, Manectric leaps into the maze, forcing them to follow. As the boys, Manectric, Kanga and Li'l Kanga search, X realizes that Tyrunt isn't just running away, it's leading them around the maze for some reason. His fears are proven right as Tyrunt dives into Kanga's pouch, stealing Li'l Kanga's Mega Stone. Meanwhile, Y demands answers from Clemont, who recalls that Grace was also taken away by a group of Team Flare Grunts.

The commotion from X's chase draws the attention of Cassius, who has been using Parfum Palace as a base of operations and looks up from a videocall with Bill, much to the latter's annoyance. Cassius tells Bill not to worry since he's been running the Kalos Pokémon Storage System for years without issue, gently poking fun at Bill's Goldenrod accent before ending the call. He tells his gang of punk girls that he's decided to investigate the ruckus going on outside.

With Kanga and Li'l Kanga's Mega Stone stolen, Trevor is at a loss of what to do next. The Team Flare Grunt gloats at having successfully retrieved two Mega Stones, referring to them with their proper names: Kangaskhanite and Manectite. Seeing the boys confused, the grunt decides to tell them that every Pokémon capable of Mega Evolution has a specific matching Mega Stone, taunting them that despite having two of such Pokémon, they no longer have the Mega Stones to use. To Trevor's surprise, X encourages Trevor by saying that they've now obtained more information on Mega Evolution, and asks Manectric if that was why it followed them all the way from the Lumiose Gym after seeing Kanga and Li'l Kanga Mega Evolve. X asks Manectric if it wants to be his Pokémon, which Manectric happily confirms. Giving Manectric the new nickname of Élec, X rides it into battle.

Seeing X's initiative, Trevor realizes that Pokémon who can Mega Evolve have an innate drive to seek out their corresponding Mega Stone. He also observes that X has had many hunches throughout their journey that were proven right, and guesses that years of hiding away in paranoia have combined with X's natural affinity for battle to heighten his senses and insights. Trevor is happy to see that X is finally coming out of his shell as X orders a Wild Charge from Élec.
