Murky Cave (Japanese: 闇の洞窟 Dark Cave) is a dungeon in Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Red Rescue Team and Blue Rescue Team and Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Rescue Team DX that contains 19 floors.
The player unlocks Murky Cave after trekking up Mt. Freeze with Gengar to help him remove Ninetales's curse on Gardevoir. Ninetales is unable to reverse its own curse, however, it gifts Gengar a 9-Tail CrestRB / Nine-Tail CrestRTDX which he must bring to Murky Cave to help break this curse. Once the player traverses through Murky Cave with Gengar, they are confronted by a voice which calls itself the judge of darkness. This voice asks the player a number of questions about Gengar's true feelings about Gardevoir. Despite the player's efforts, the curse is unable to be lifted, and is only broken once Gengar expresses his sense of gratitude for Gardevoir's sacrifice as well as the player character's selflessness in helping him.
Gameplay
Generation III
Darkness shrouds floors 2 to 19, limiting field of view in hallways to 2 tiles.
This dungeon is one of two in the original games where only money is found (aside from Monster Houses), the other being Meteor Cave.
Generation VIII
Unlike the original games, darkness is not present and other items (including money) can be found in the dungeon.
