Paul G. Feinman
Paul G. Feinman was a judge of the New York Court of Appeals, New York's court of last resort. He served on the court from 2017 to March 23, 2021, when he announced he was resigning effective immediately to "attend to health concerns."[1] Feinman's term was not set to end until 2030.
Feinman was nominated to the court by Democratic Governor Andrew Cuomo on June 15, 2017, and was approved by the New York State Senate on June 21, 2017. Feinman was the first openly gay judge confirmed to serve on the state's highest court.[2]
Feinman was previously a justice for the New York County Supreme Court, Civil Term in the 1st Judicial District of New York. He was elected to this position in 2008 and his term was set to expire in 2021.[3][4]
He was also appointed to the New York Supreme Court, Appellate Division, First Department by Governor Andrew Cuomo on October 1, 2012.[5]
Feinman passed away on March 31, 2021.[6]

Feinman received his B.A. degree from Columbia University in 1981 and his J.D. from the University of Minnesota Law School in 1985.[3]

Feinman began his career in 1985 as a staff attorney for the Legal Aid Society of Nassau County, Criminal Appeals Bureau. From 1987 to 1989, he worked with the Manhattan Legal Aid Society as a staff attorney in the Criminal Defense Division. He then worked as the principal court attorney for Supreme Court Justice Angela Mazzarelli until 1996, when he became a judge himself.
