Nancy Nowak
Nancy Stein Nowak was a federal magistrate judge for the United States District Court for the Western District of Texas. She was appointed to this position on June 19, 1989.[1] On March 31, 2012, she retired from the bench.[2]
Education
Judge Nowak received her B.A. and M.A. degrees from Drake University in 1974 and 1976, respectively. She then received her J.D. degree from George Washington University in 1980.[3]
Career
Judge Nowak began practicing law in 1980 as a solo practitioner in Washington, D.C. The following year, she became a briefing attorney for U.S. Magistrate Jim Hodges in Iowa. She continued to work as a briefing attorney through 1987 with U.S. Magistrate Jamie Boyd of San Antonio (1983-1984) and then with U.S. District Judge Edward Prado (1984-1987). From November of 1988 until her judicial appointment in 1989, she was an Assistant United States Trustee for the Western District of Texas.[3]
