Harry Hudspeth
Harry Lee Hudspeth was an Article III federal judge for the United States District Court for the Western District of Texas. He first joined the court in 1979 after being nominated by President Jimmy Carter. He was the court's chief judge from 1992 to 1999, and served as a senior federal judge from 2001 until his retirement from judicial service in 2016.
Early life and education
Born in Dallas, Texas, Hudspeth graduated from the University of Texas with his bachelor's degree in 1955 and from the University of Texas School of Law with his J.D. in 1958.[1]
Military service
Hudspeth served as a corporal in the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve from 1958 to 1959.[1]

Judicial nominations and appointments
Western District of Texas
Hudspeth was nominated to the United States District Court for the Western District of Texas by President Jimmy Carter on October 11, 1979, to a seat vacated by Adrian Spears. Hudspeth was confirmed by the U.S. Senate on November 26, 1979, and he received his commission on November 27, 1979. Hudspeth served as the court's chief judge from 1992 to 1999. He elected to take senior status beginning on June 30, 2001, and served as a senior judge until his retirement from judicial service on January 31, 2016.[1] Upon his decision to take senior status in 2001, which created a vacancy on the court, Hudspeth was succeeded in this position by Judge Alia Moses.[1]
Magistrate judge, Western District of Texas
Hudspeth was a federal magistrate judge for the United States District Court for the Western District of Texas from 1977 to 1979.[1]
