Preston (Democratic Party) ran for election to the New Hampshire House of Representatives to represent Rockingham 40. Preston lost in the Democratic primary on September 13, 2022.
Preston was a 2016 Democratic candidate for Rockingham 20 of the New Hampshire House of Representatives.
He is a former Democratic member of the New Hampshire House of Representatives, representing Rockingham 14 from 2006 to 2010.

The signature filing deadline for candidates wishing to run in this election was June 13, 2014. Mark Preston was unopposed in the Democratic primary, while Max Abramson, Francis Chase and Dennis B. Sweeney were unopposed in the Republican primary. John H. Kelley (I) and Edward T. Cody (I) did not qualify for the general election ballot. Preston, write-in candidate David Ahearn (D), Abramson, Chase and Sweeney faced off in the general election.[5] Republicans Abramson, Chase, and Sweeney defeated Democrats Preston and Ahearn in the general election.[6]
