|Evelyn is a 19-year resident of Marshall, NC. She is active in the community with different charitable groups. Evelyn loves the role of serving others. Serving others is what led her to her career in health care for the past 38 years. It is this passion for serving that has led her to seek the position of NC House of Representatives District 118. Evelyn is seeking out the needs of District 118’s constituents and will ensure those concerns are heard.
- School Safety: Expanding mental health and supportive services in schools, including early identification and intervention programs. Providing haven from people who seek their lives with guns. Increase teachers’ salaries and provide resources.
- Gun Control: Reduce gun violence while respecting the rights of responsible gun owners. The purchase of a firearm shouldn't be easier to get a gun than a driver's license. Cracking Down on Gun Trafficking and Straw Purchases: Preventing dangerous individuals from illegally evading background checks by establishing new federal criminal offenses that cover straw purchasing and trafficking.
- Equal Rights: Women should have the right to choose reproductive care, with the caveat that abortion should not be used as birth control-life is sacred. The choice the woman makes will be carried by her for the remainder of her life. Women should be aware of all resources available. Birth control should be available for those of lower economic status.
Education:
Support Teachers: Salary and resources. Teachers should not have to pay out of their own pocket for the tools to educate our children. All courses at secondary levels should be weighed equally and accepted on par when transferring to an instate facility. Time to revamp what companies need and ensure the degrees are pertinent and not just a waste of time, and money for a piece of paper.
When I first went into nursing almost 38 years ago now, I wanted to be a servant of the people like Florence Nightingale. I have such admiration for her.
“Right now, it's time for us to do something-If not now, then when? We're never gonna change the world by standing still. If not me and you- it's time for us to do something” Matthew West from song Do Something.
Evelyn is seeking out the needs of District 118’s constituents and will ensure those concerns are heard. No matter what a person's social standing is, all voices have a say and should be heard. This is what all elected officials should take to heart.
As I have mentioned previously, my passion is to help others. Like the song says, “Right now, it's time for us to do something-If not now, then when? We're never gonna change the world by standing still. If not me and you- it's time for us to do something” Matthew West from song Do Something.
The core responsibilities of any elected official is to listen to all voiced concerns no matter how big or small the situation or issue at hand. Some talk the talk, but they don't follow through.
The legacy I would like to leave is knowing that I have helped others in making things better for those I serve.
The biggest historical event I recall is when the Pope came to Winnipeg, Manitba Canada in 1984. I was 24 at the time.
My first real job was working at an ice cream store in Canada where I grew up. I stayed there for a couple of years.
My favorite book is the Bible. I study it on a daily basis. I currently read the MacArthur Study Bible every day.
As some may remember the fictional character Wonder Woman. No matter how hard we try to get things accomplished, there is only 24 hours in a day and we do what we can with the time God allows us.
The last song that gets stuck in my head is the same as I have mentioned previously. “Right now, it's time for us to do something-If not now, then when? We're never gonna change the world by standing still. If not me and you- it's time for us to do something” Matthew West from song Do Something.
The struggle I have dealt with in my life as many others is loosing a loved one or someone under my care. It never gets easier, but while that person is still on this earth with us, we can show them dignity and provide them with the care we are all entitled to.
The relationship between the Governor of NC and those elected to state legislature should be one where issues are worked out no matter what your political affiliation. After all, we work for the people that have elected us.
Over the next decade, some of NC's greatest challenges I feel will be taking care of the needs of those on Medicaid and Medicare. The price of medications can be ridiculous especially when seniors hit what is known as the donut where it comes down to a choice between food or medicatons. Also, with Medicaid, recipients have to jump through hoops to get certain things covered.
Many people that are elected into local or state government have no experience whatsoever. We all have our own opinions on what needs to be fixed or addressed to correct a problem. We all have to learn to crawl before we walk.
I believe it is very benefical to build relationships on both sides of the aisle. Those with experience can help lead others to help our constituents. After all, this is why we are elected to different positions.
I have had great respect for past Presidents of both parties.
If elected to NC House of Representatives, my first concern would be listening to the people of District 118, Haywood and Madison Counties. As for the future, only God knows what will be.
I have heard from the county in which I have lived for the past going on 19 years, some seniors that have had to buy cat food to survive. This is so sad to hear when it comes to our senior populous. Also, seniors should not have to make the hard choice of purchasing their medications or buying food. This is not right.
Since we also raise hens for eggs, I guess my joke right now would be...what did the bowl say to the egg...let's get cracking.
In times of disastors, sometimes it would be necessary to grant the use of emergency powers depending on the situation at hand. However, these powers should only be temporary until the situation at hand is rectified and things return to normal.

We have been approached by different organizations that have reached out to us from Teacher's Association of NC to Planned Parenthood and so on.
I am interested in teacher's concerns and pay, school safety, Gun control making sure that guns are used, issued and handled by responsible gun owners. I am also a strong advocate of dealing with mental health issues, Domestic Violence, Safe communities for the homeless, and protecting our natural resources
The government, no matter federal or at a state level needs to accept responsibility for all monies spent. This is why it is of upmost importance to be transparent to the people that have put that person in power to represent them. If someone fails the trust of the people, they must be held accountable for their actions.
