Hi!
Personally, I also think that trauma isn’t something that creators can use as a quirk either. There are cases of trauma in characters written extremely well, but I think it requires a careful and respectful approach and a whole lot of research to do correctly.
Unfortunately, many authors (including the famous published ones) usually don’t bother even a little bit when it comes to writing a character with trauma/mental health issue/any kind of disability. At least, that’s the case most of the time.
Not every character has to have trauma though, just like not every person does. I’m still unpacking my traumatic experiences (second hand and first hand trauma alike) and let me tell you, it’s not fun AT ALL. So thank you for expressing the opinions you have expressed! Louder for people in the back, please! 😉
Anyway, love your art and I hope you stay safe. Берегите себя!
Yes, it’s neither a quirk nor a must have. Mostly we see ppl online who put an unrealistic amount of traumatic events in their character’s backstory simply because “everyone does it”. Like they cannot be cool without it.
Sure, there are cases where people project their own traumatic experiences onto their characters as a coping mechanism. Which is normal. But then there are people who have experienced traumatic event(s) in their lives and they wouldn’t want to project that onto anyone/live through it again or see anyone else go through it in general. Which is also normal. But for some reason, people would rather impose an incredible amount of traumatic events/mental issues onto their character than try some other approach.
Our point of view, obw. But glad to hear someone shares it

funny to see these assumptions about Viktor when in reality this guy himself is the cause of trauma for ppl around him
