Pastebin

OSDN Pastebin is a function what's usually called Pastebin and Code Snippets, and services provided by websites like pastebin.com are popularly used. You can share, distribute, and publish text files such as source code, a part of configuration file, ASCII art, and all other kinds of documents.

It is so easy to use. Here's how to do it. First, copy and paste the text file to where you want it embeded. Next enter the title and description, and choose the file format (such as plain text, ASCII art, programming language), publish mode, and period of publication. Once you click the register button, a pastebin page gets generated.

On the generated pastebin page, you can view the registered text file with line lumbers, and you can also view it in the syntax highlight format. Also, you can convert it to RAW expression, download text file, and create a new version of pastebin that quotes the text.

There are several ways to make the generated pastebin open to the public such as to embed iframe code, which will be provided on the pastebin page, in blogs for publicity, and use SNS like Twitter, Facebook, and Google+ to publicize the URL. It supports Twitter Cards, so you can make the title and description of the pastebin to be shown on the timeline. Besides the goal of simply sharing text, you can also use this to write longer text that may exceed the number of word limitation.

Example

Below is an example of registering two kinds or Hello World progam as a pastebin, then use Wiki extension grammar to paste it. By clicking the title, you can jump to the pastebin page.

  6. <meta http-equiv="content-type" content="application/xhtml+xml; charset=UTF-8" />
  7. <title>Hello, World!</title>
  8. </head>
  9. <body>
  10. <p>Hello, World!</p>
  11. </body>
  12. </html>
  1. #include <stdio.h>
  2. int main(void)
  3. {
  4. printf("Hello, world!");
  5. return 0;
  6. }

The differences of the available features between anonymous and login users

OSDN's pastebin can be used by both anonymous and login users. But there are a few limitations on anonymous users.

  • Anonymous user can only choose one week for publication period. After a week, the pastebin will be deleted.
  • Anonymous user can not make the pastebin private. Only when logged in, user can create a pastebin that are viewed only by him/her.
  • Anonymous user can not immedeately delete the pastebin created by him/her. That said, as already mentioned above, it will be automatically deleted after a week.

Minute Detail

  • If you choose ASCII art for the format, the display style of the pastebin will be accomodated to so-called Japanese proportional font ASCII art.
