What is mentoring?
Mentoring is a one-on-one relationship, usually with a youth worker, who will work with you to determine your goals, and a plan to achieve them so you get to where you want to be.
A mentor can help you set education goals, create a CV, develop skills to find a job, find relevant courses and build your confidence socially and professionally.
Explore future goals alongside someone who will listen and can help. Mentors can help with a range of things, they can be as simple as a listening ear, or they can support you to:
- Stay in school
- Create a CV
- Find a job our course
- Get your drivers license
- Learn new skills
- Build your confidence
It all depends on who you are and what you need. You might be in an awesome space and need to bounce ideas off someone, or you might be feeling really stressed and need some help with next steps.
Get yourself someone who is on your side. Get yourself an Ally. The Allies are young adults trained to be supportive, respectful, and help you work out what you want in life. They do this as a volunteer.
You get your own person who is there for you. They check in several times a week so see how you are and tell you how great you are. Cause you are.
The Allies can only support young people between 12 to 16.
The Allies programme is provided by Youthline Central South Island.
