Building Community: Employee Resource Groups

Building Community: Employee Resource Groups

Ziff Davis is proud to offer Employee Resource Groups (ERGs), voluntary employee-led groups mentored by executive sponsors and overseen by our Global DEI and HR Programs team. They represent seven identity groups: Asian, Black, 2SLGBTQIA+, Latinx/Hispanic, family of all kinds, women and gender minorities, and interfaith. Our ERGs offer our employees:

  • Community and belonging for members, other employees, and candidates
  • The ability to surface needs, interests, and concerns of the ERG’s population
  • Space for recognition and celebration of important holidays and milestones
  • Career development, mentoring, networking, and service opportunities
  • Increased access to senior leadership
  • Feedback and input avenues for DEI initiatives relating to engagement, retention/turnover, recruiting, and hiring for groups represented by ERGs

ERGs are given the opportunity to grant pro bono advertising, donated by Ziff Davis, to charities aligned with their goals.

Building a Diverse Workforce

Building a Diverse Workforce

Ziff Davis’ Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) goals, strategies, initiatives and programs are a priority for our CEO, Global Head of Human Resources, Executive Leadership team and Board of Directors – driven by the input and participation of our employees. Our ongoing actions to increase diversity across our workforce include:

  • Maintaining a DEI Council who develop recommendations for the company across employee recruiting, mentorship, and advancement.
  • In 2023, we activated 100% of the $1 million committed to hiring POC freelancers by year-end.
  • Adding non-financial DEI targets, based on internal talent goals, to the annual compensation plans of executives with substantial hiring oversight. The bonus plans of certain senior executives include a hiring, retention, and leadership component based on the achievement of Ziff Davis’ diversity and inclusion objectives.
  • In 2023, our Black@ZD ERG participated in AFROTECH, the largest Black professional conference for the tech and internet sectors, for the second year in a row.
  • Continuing our annual eight-week summer internship program with the City University of New York Craig Newmark Graduate School of Journalism to attract diverse talent.
  • Posting open roles on job boards with organizations that serve individuals who identify as people of color, including the National Association of Hispanic Journalists, the National Association of Black Journalists, the Asian American Journalists Association, the Native American Journalists Association, the Association of LGBTQ Journalists, the South Asian Journalists Association, and Writers of Color.
  • Professional Development: Creating Avenues for Advancement

Professional Development: Creating Avenues for Advancement

Ensuring employees have access to professional development opportunities is a priority at Ziff Davis. By offering employees programs through which they can develop additional skills and find new opportunities within the company, we help to create a more representative and inclusive workforce throughout our organization. Among our programs:

    • Global Internal Mobility Program: Makes it easier for employees to apply — and be considered first — for positions across our brands through our internal job board.
    • ReStart: A 12-week paid returnship program open to candidates who have paused work for two years or more to support their loved ones, obtain graduate degrees or fulfill personal obligations. Candidates can brush up on skills and be mentored while building up to the full responsibilities and duties of the identified position, with an opportunity to be evaluated for conversion to that full-time position upon completion. In 2022, we continued to improve this program by expanding it from technology roles to other functions, creating an internal support network for our returners, and guaranteeing full-time employment for all participants in good standing.
    • Global Mentorship Program: This one-to-one program allows employees to partner with more experienced colleagues, set goals together, then collaborate to help the employee achieve their goals. In 2023, over 638 employees participated in the program, and over 528 mentoring relationships were created. Our program also received the 2023 and 2022 Most Impactful Mentoring Program award from Mentorloop.

Increasing Impact: Employee Training and Education

Ziff Davis empowers our employees with resources and information to help them champion equity and inclusion within and beyond our organization, including:

    • Required Diversity & Inclusion and Managing Bias, in addition to annual Anti-Harassment/Anti-Discrimination and Code of Conduct training for all employees
    • Anti-Racism & Allyship manager training
    • Learning resources centered around prominent cultural milestones and celebrations (including Juneteenth, Black History Month and 2SLGBTQIA+ Pride Month) and topics such as employee well-being and mental health to our global community of employees
