@mushroom-circles

Fellas does it count as entering the circle if you eat all the mushrooms first. Asking for a friend.

if i was 26 and had just woken up from a 70 year suicide-induced coma with no one in the present remembering who i am and instead conflating me with the ever changing image of the role i played in ww2 that now serves as american propaganda and 2 weeks ago i was watching guys get half of their faces blown off and a week after that the love of my life fell off of a moving train with me only being able to watch and then i had to like... deal with a billionaire nepo baby war profiteer calling me an old man and saying there's nothing special about me i would have started killing people. but unfortunately it happened to steve rogers. and he has, like, morals. so

Like it's actually fucking insane when you realize how deeply the US fucking hates black people (I'm saying this as a white person btw). Basically all of our domestic problems and our descent into fascism ties back to "black people got 'too many' rights and that pissed off racists."

The civil rights movement of the 1960s and the gains black people made to be recognized as actual human beings provoked IMMEDIATE backlash among white conservatives. MANY powerful conservative institutions and movements today have their roots in antiblackness.

Anyway, black (and indigenous!) Americans, I am so fucking sorry we as a country hate you so much. I try my best to educate those around me and speak up for what's right but unfortunately it's not always effective.

embrace the joys of not being included in everything

  • the ability to take in someone else's experiences and see them as external to you, a brand new thing you've learned about the world
  • the opportunity to listen to a conversation without having to form, justify and defend a position
  • security in the knowledge that your friends can entertain themselves, and even each other, and you don't have to lift a finger
  • sweet release from the obligation to attend events that don't interest you
  • the bliss of not being scrutinised

i think what people tend to forget is that laughing at modern art also counts as having a dialogue with it. like as long as you're respectful of the museum space and whatnot. you are under no obligation to take any of it seriously. when i go to a modern art museum I do engage with every piece and read the blurb and think deeply/discuss its intention and its execution but it doesnt stop me from having a giggle at the ones i think are stupid. often the artist is equally aware that it may be stupid. sometimes that's the point also. it's fun!

I’m always saying this. Fine art can be and often is funny. Intentionally so! People just assume a certain level of reverence is demanded and it often makes people clam up about their real reactions or react hostilely.

It’s ok to laugh!

i think we've done a great job expanding the view of what a child's favorite animal can be. kids these days can say they love axolotls or pangolins or coelecanths and their decision is respected. maybe their parents can even find them a stuffed animal of it if they know where to look. and i think that's beautiful

Casual reminder that we would be nothing without black trans women

the amount of effort they’ve always put into making a safe and loving community has saved so many lives. we owe these ladies everything. fuck the whitewashed bullshit and put some respect on them for once.

self proclaimed leftists with entire graduate degrees on twitter not understanding that tourism in places like latin america and the caribbean is a form of neocolonialism even in places where the national economy is dependent on it. just because the government is making money off of ur lil excursions and hotel stays doesn’t mean regular citizens are, especially in your fave ‘tropical getaway spots’. the fact that sandals wanted to build an entire resort in tobago where my family lives might sound great for the economy or whatever until you realize that they would’ve closed off several acres of land and made it inaccessible to non-tourists which is fucking insane thing to even propose on such a small island. like i’m sorry but do you really think my family is grateful when you crackers come to visit during the winter?? do you really think your presence adds value to their lives?? when the govt invests money in ports but not paving the fucking roads anywhere that’s not downtown/vacation home territory?? you white losers need to put down ur marx for like half a sec and pick up a small place by jamaica kincaid. like lol if you wanna be a tourist be a tourist but don’t fucking act like anyone who refers to it as a contemporary form of colonialism is doing too much. ESPECIALLY when this sentiment is legit coming directly from the people living in the getaways you love to visit. i genuinely don’t understand how y’all can grasp the “there is no ethical consumption under capitalism” shit but can’t understand this.

tourists visit a place where the livelihoods of the 5% of the population they actually interact with are dependent on how well they’re able to kiss their asses and make them feel like they’re the most important people in the world and somehow they genuinely believe that this translates to all of the locals actually liking, respecting, and needing them.
