I thought I would make something visually explaining my process when taking a basic base to a more alternative look
Hi to anyone who knows me just as “accidental joker cosplay girl”.
I actually regularly post fashion video content, not just photos, so you can see outfits being built and hear my explanation for my choices. I mostly wear regular 80s and 80s goth fashion.
An old school goth look. I look forward to getting to wear this without a massive coat over it once the weather gets warmer.
Wearing vs styling; a common gripe I see with thrift store clothing is that it’s often “shapeless”. While there’s certainly nothing wrong with dressing like a black blob (a favorite hobby of mine), adding shape to a shapeless garment is as simple as belting it and manipulating it to create volume where desired. Hi. Because that’s me in the video and I actually filmed myself doing a hair tutorial that day I can answer your question.
I do have a perm and I think permed curls behave a bit differently than natural ones but I think the method I used should work for naturally curly hair as well.
It wouldn’t work for straight hair though, before my perm I had to do my 80s hair with a very different method. Some of it is the haircut, my hair is a bit shorter on the sides. You can see the video tutorial on my short 80s hair here (YouTube) or here (TikTok)
You can do a lot with the base of a black shirt and pants if you style it correctly
