Thank you!!! This is the 5th draft of a Meronia power outage fic I started writing for Near's birthday event last year. The premise is that Mello and Near are both working under L, but L was unhappy with their (or, more specifically, Mello's) inability to cooperate with each other. He assigned them collaborative work to do out of the office until they could figure out how to work together. As the title suggests, the power goes out while they're alone, and it turns out a storm and darkness is just what they need to bridge the gap between them.

I think if I were to pick this one back up, it would need a complete overhaul, but here's an excerpt from the most recent version:

This idea was for an AU in which Mello survives the Kira case and is sent to prison. Near arranges regular private visits with him; the original idea was that he pretended to be married to Mello, hence the title, but I'm pretty sure I scrapped that and just ran with him using his influence as L with some flimsy excuse about interrogating Mello for a case. It's a decently old WIP and there's no outline on my doc, so I have no idea what Near's actual reasoning was supposed to be for the visits in question. Predictably though, it does develop into a romantic thing, and the fic ends with Near winning his legal case to have Mello released :') #lovewins
